There is pain in your purpose! “Why do I have to go through pain to achieve my purpose?”, you may think. There is a reason for pain. Pain leads to prayer and prayer leads to the fulfillment of purpose. Let us look in the book of 1 Samuel, Chapter 2, we find that Hannah was in a painful situation. Hannah had to share her husband Elkanah with his other wife, Penninah. Penninah had children and Hannah was unable to conceive a child. Furthermore, throughout the year and at the time of visiting temple, Penninah would often taunt Hannah about her inability to conceive. All of this weighed heavily on Hannah and was a constant painful experience. No one around her understood her pain (not even her husband). So, at the time of temple, Hannah went in and prayed earnestly unto the Lord. Hannah vowed a vow that if the Lord were to grant her a child that she would give the child unto the Lord. She prayed so fervently that Eli the priest thought that she was drunk. Once he realized that Hannah was not drunk, Eli told her “Go in peace and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou has asked of Him.” After this, Elkanah knew his wife and she conceived a son. As vowed, Hannah returned the child back to the Lord after she had weaned him. As a result of her pain and prayer, Hannah fulfilled her purpose in conceiving a child that would later be a man of God and of the direct blood line of Jesus Christ. If Hannah had not felt pain, she would not have accomplished her purpose. From this situation, we learn three things: 1. Hurt me or hate me, I’m still here! 2. Faith is required alongside of prayer and worship. 3. The Lord is looking for a new sacrifice. From this we must examine the purpose behind our pain. When we understand the purpose, look to Christ for aid, then the pain becomes bearable and the situation is overcome! When you look around and realize that you are in a season of pain, just remember, take your faith and pray unto the Lord, trusting that the pain and the prayer will lead you to your purpose!
